+ Why SHOULD I BUY LOCAL?
We are witnessing a desire for consumers to consume consciously; a re-evaluation of the nature of consumption is happening everywhere. When you are purchasing from local artists and designers, you are making a choice to support sustainable economies based upon local production. Buying from a local artisan means you are aligning yourself with independent, creative thinking that is outside of the mainstream, away from the big box stores that have permeated our cities and towns. A hand-made object is a unique, one of a kind item that has been lovingly and creatively touched by the hand of the maker.
+ WHERE DOES YOUR RECLAIMED & SALVAGED WOOD COME FROM?
We use two different types of wood: live edge slabs and reclaimed timbers. All our live edge slabs are salvaged from the urban environment due to storms, construction or old age. Our reclaimed timbers are retrieved from buildings set for demolition in and around Greater Vancouver. Check out our WOOD page for more details on the wood we use.
+ HOW ARE YOUR LIVE EDGE SLABS DRIED?
All our slabs are kiln dried and are ready to be worked with.
+ CAN YOU MAKE A PIECE OF CUSTOM FURNITURE THAT IS NOT ON YOUR WEBSITE?
Of course we can! Our website only has a fraction of the projects we've done. Even if you are dreaming of something we have never done before, please give us a call. We are always up for a challenge. If you have a sketch or some inspirational images, please send them our way, or if you'd like us to come by for a custom consultation, we'd be happy to do so. We are here to make your custom furniture dreams a reality.
+ IS THERE A SIZE LIMIT TO THE CUSTOM FURNITURE YOU BUILD?
Yes, but it is more dependent on your environment then our abilities. Please keep in mind the size of your doors and window openings, as well as stairs and elevators, these usually dictate how large of a piece we can build for you. The wood and steel components come apart with a bolt and anchor system securely fastened into the wood. Legs and frames can be removed for transport and delivery.
+ DO YOU BUILD FURNITURE WITH WOOD PROVIDED BY CUSTOMERS?
Yes, on occasion we do, but first we must ensure our safety by confirming the wood is free from debris such as nails, sand and other foreign matter, which can cause injury and damage tools. We must also do our best to ensure that there are no chemicals on or penetrated within the wood such as creosote and chromated copper arsenate (CCA). These would be harmful to us while working with the wood and are not ideal for you to live with either. For wood that has not been kiln dried, we also check for signs of bugs.
+ DO YOU HAVE A SELECTION OF LIVE EDGE SLABS & RECLAIMED WOOD TO CHOOSE FROM?
Yes, we have an ever-changing stock of live edge slabs and reclaimed timbers available to spark your imagination. Send us your dimensions, and we can let you know what we have. We can also source the perfect piece of wood for your project.
+ WHY DO YOU USE WOOD AND STEEL?
Our projects focus on the joining of wood and steel because this is the marriage of our skills as a couple. This union is the essence of who we are, we call this style West Coast Industrial Furniture. It is designed and built with strength and beauty in mind; we like to say it is earthquake proof.
+ WHERE CAN I BUY A STUDIO 126 ORIGINAL PIECE OF FURNITURE?
Most of our furniture is custom made and one of a kind. You can order directly from us, just send us an email or give us a call, we would love to hear from you. For a step-by-step description of ordering a custom piece, please check out our process page.
+ CAN I LOOK AT A FINISHED PIECE OF YOUR CUSTOM FURNITURE?
Yes, of course. We usually have a piece in progress at our studio that you are welcome to view. We also have several customers, both commercial and residential, that would love to show you our work in situ. Please contact us to coordinate a showing.
+ WHAT IS YOUR TURNAROUND TIME FOR A PIECE OF CUSTOM FURNITURE?
Turnaround time depends on schedules and wood availability but is generally 6 to 10 weeks. Once we have confirmed your wood choice as well as other details including dimensions, finish and leg design, we can provide you with an accurate turnaround time.
+ DO YOU DELIVER?
Yes, we personally handle the delivery of every piece of furniture we make. Our delivery is the white-glove treatment, which includes unpacking and recycling any delivery materials, as well as moving the piece of furniture to the desired location. Delivery in Vancouver is free, and for a reasonable cost, we can deliver outside the city. Shipping nationally and internationally is quoted on a per case basis. If you prefer to pick up your new piece of custom furniture, we can arrange that.
+ DO YOU OFFER INSTALLATION?
Absolutely we do. We can provide a quote for the installation of built-in pieces as it varies on the complexity of the project.
